Ensuring a Welcoming Experience for All
The Tower of London offers extensive support for visitors with mobility impairments. Many key attractions, including the Crown Jewels exhibition, the ground floor of the White Tower, and the Bloody Tower, feature step-free access. We provide a limited number of manual wheelchairs for loan from the Welcome Centre on a first-come, first-served basis. Accessible toilets are conveniently located throughout the site, and portable ramps are available to assist with minor level changes where permanent solutions are not feasible due to the historic nature of the buildings. Please note that some areas still have uneven surfaces and cobbles.
Visitors with visual impairments can enjoy their visit with several aids. Assistance dogs are warmly welcomed throughout the site. We offer large print guides at the Welcome Centre, and audio descriptions are available for key exhibitions and historical points of interest. Our dedicated staff are trained to provide assistance and guidance, and tactile models are integrated into specific exhibitions to offer a multi-sensory understanding of the Tower's history and artifacts.
We are committed to supporting visitors with sensory sensitivities, autism, or cognitive disabilities. Quiet spaces are designated across the site for moments of calm and respite. Our staff can provide information on less crowded routes and optimal visiting times to ensure a more comfortable experience. To help prepare for your visit and reduce anxiety, visual stories and social guides detailing what to expect are available for download on our official website prior to your arrival.
